Building A Brighter Future With Work

Career Guidance

Mediation and Guidance Team

The mediation and guidance team work with clients on a one-to-one basis and will assist clients in a focused, ongoing, holistic process combining personal and skill development and access to employment, education and training. An essential element of the service will be a proactive outreach strategy to reach individuals who do not consider themselves as being in the labour market and therefore do not seek the assistance of existing agencies or services.

Over the last number of years the BJC guidance service has supported clients to appreciate their own skills and abilities and overcome barriers to the world of work. The importance of this service is linked to life long learning. In today's labour market individuals have to be more in control of their own career advancement than before. The Guidance service will provide guidance and assessment services for job seekers and job changers.

Aims of Mediation and Guidance

Mediation and Guidance Objectives

To work with people on a one-to-one basis or group setting in terms of progression. When working with clients our approach is open and client centred. We strive to see positive change in people's lives in terms of career progression. We do this by working with an individual needs based approach showing valuable listening skills, empathy and encouragement where needed. When working with a client we agree a verbal contract between the mediator and the client in regard to setting goals. This is a plan set out that both the mediator and client can work towards and be flexible with. As part of this plan referral and training can take place while the mediator continues to work with the client throughout this process until an attainable goal is reached.
