Guidance Services is a core part of the BJC support service and provides clients with the opportunity to identify their own innate abilities. As individuals become aware of their own abilities, labour market possibilities open up.
This service is useful for individuals who are unsure about the type of job they would like or are unsure what type of work they would be good at. It provides individuals with an opportunity to explore the education, training or employment choices open to them.

It is also valuable for people with patchy work record, lack of experience or qualifications, interest in training, wanting to explore literacy issues and addressing barriers to employment, e.g. substance abuse, disability, criminal record, childcare issues and so on.
This is a one to one service offering appointments that suit the client’s needs. Clients can avail of career guidance for in-depth assessment using occupational interest inventories and aptitude tests where appropriate, using fun tools to help establish a suitable career.
OUR SERVICES INCLUDE:
emerge an initiative of the Mount Street Trust: emerge is an exciting new Initiative that is piloting a system where access to labour market interventions is based on an individual's interests, aptitudes or needs as part of an identified short to medium term career plan instead of the normal welfare status, duration of unemployment, age etc.
Guidance for Young People: The BJC provides a specific guidance service for young early school leavers. This tailor-made service is inter-agency, (Via the Equal Youth Inter Agency Process) person centred and deals with individuals aged between 16 and 24 years. click here for further information
The Drug Support Services (Drugs Task Force):On behalf of the Ballymun Local Drugs Task Force (BLDTF), the BJC offers a service to people who have or have had drug or alcohol issues. The service aims to develop bridging supports for clients coming from a background of drug or alcohol use. The service works with clients to develop new directions, priorities and networks around re-integration strategies. The main supports provided include employment supports, vocational educational supports, prison and community links, career guidance and the development of training supports. click here for further information
Community Prison Links: The BJC provides a service for individuals from Ballymun that have or have had a drug issue and are in prison. This service is funded by the BLDTF and provides outreach work with prisoners in order to design positive post prison plans, at least six months before they are due for release. The plan is developed to meet the needs of the individual given their personal and family circumstances. Clients are provided with an opportunity to look at their life circumstances and access a pathway towards rehabilitation. The plan covers many issues including drug treatment, accommodation, education, training or employment needs.
