Improving Job Search Skills

The Jfas_logoob Club, funded by FAS, enables clients to develop more effective job search skills and to prepare for job interviews.  The Job Club maintains and develops an individual's level of confidence and motivation to look for a job, increases the individuals's chances of obtaining a job interview and increases skills to perform effectively at an interview


 

What is a Job Club?

job_club_sticker_A Job Club brings together unemployed people of all ages who are looking for work.

It provides a range of facilities and services to help Job Club Members return to employment. Membership of the Job Club is voluntary and totally free of charge! 

Members of the Job club are all unemployed persons, who have a common goal - a genuine interest in finding work. Under the expert guidance of the Job Club Leader, members receive training and support in developing their job seeking skills. 

Members also work together, share their experiences and explore local work opportunities. When you become a member, the Job Club will build your confidence and show you how jobs can be found. It will also provide you with the resources needed for an intensive search for work 

 

JOB CLUB SERVICES

The Job Club provides a range of services and facilities to members including:

               ♦       A Resource Centre
               ♦       Formal Training
               ♦       
Support and Advice in Sourcing Jobs


RESOURCE CENTRE

The Job Club’s Resource centre can provide you with facilities to help you find work, including:


               ♦       Access to computer, typing and photocopying facilities.
               ♦       Assistance with developing Curriculum Vitae
               ♦       Assistance in completing application forms.
               ♦       Browsing through the “Situations Vacant” sections of all National and Local Newspapers
               ♦       Access to Telephone and Stationery
               ♦       Access to Internet and email





JOB CLUB FORMAL TRAINING SESSIONS

The Job Club also provides formal training sessions. The formal sessions comprise of two weeks practical Job Seeking skills and one week active Job Seeking using the Job Club facitilities. They are run on a part time basis (mornings) once a month.

        ♦        How to write Cover Letters
        ♦        How to complete Application Forms
        ♦        Team Building Exercises
        ♦        Confidence Building Exercises
        ♦        Interview Preparation and Techniques
        ♦        Mock Interviews and Feedback


 

SOURCING JOBS

The Job Club Leader has a good knowledge of local business and will be able to discuss local work opportunities with you.The Leader will also be able to steer you in the right direction towards a job suited to your skills and abilities. You will have access to daily newspapers and other information directories that will help to secure you a job.
